In July 2006, the first small-scale wind turbine grid-tied inverter, independently developed by Sungrow, was officially incorporated into the utility grid in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia, opening up a new field for the application of small-scale wind turbines in China. Following years of vigorous R&D, Sungrow has embarked on mass production of solar PV grid-tied inverters. The small-scale wind turbine grid-tied inverters have obtained CE certification and various patents and are distributed to the US, the UK, the Netherlands, Australia, New Zealand and other countries.

The small-scale wind turbine grid-tied power system is primarily composed of a wind turbine, a rectifier, electronic (dump) load and a grid-tied inverter, which eventually convert and feed the electrical energy generated by the wind turbine into the utility grid.

Sungrow provides completed small-scale wind power generation solutions for users. By topological structure, small-scaled wind turbine grid-tied power systems fall into two categories as shown in the following diagram:

The core equipment for the first type of topological structure includes an electronic load control box of the WEL-2K~6K series and a grid-tied inverter of the WG1K5TL~5K series. The electronic load control box comes with a rectifier and electronic load, minimizing the users cost and space requirement.

The core equipment for the second type of topological structure includes a WEL-30K electronic load control box and a grid-tied inverter of the WG10K~30K or WG10K3~100K3 series. The rectifier for wind turbine output can be provided by the user or supplied by Sungrow. The electronic load control box comes with a rectifier, and the electronic load requires external connected.

The electronic load control box provided by Sungrow can automatically and continually adjust the power of the connected dump load to suit the wind force, thus maximizing the generation of wind power in the utility grid and providing an efficient and reliable protection for the grid-tied inverter.
